Munaycha :: APURIMAC BLACK CANYON

APURIMAC BLACK CANYON

3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS

1 /

The Apurimac canyon is considered one of the deepest in Peru and one of the best places for rafting trips in the world. The Black Canyon section is characterized by its large number of white sand beaches, its long sections of calm and crystal-clear waters, and it’s fun class III and IV rapids. We will have the chance to see condors, deer, river otters, foxes and different types of birds.

This trip is ideal for people with little experience in the river who are willing to live an adventure in contact with nature, without too much difficulty but with the necessary dose of action and adrenaline. Children from 12 years of age can go.

Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO TO ROCOTO - APURIMAC RIVER

We leave Cusco in our private transport, and after 4 hours of travel through the Cusco Andes, we will go down one of the Apurimac valley slopes, passing through a native forest where we will end with a short walk until we reach the river (approx. 2,500 masl). After lunch by the river and receiving the necessary equipment, we will give a safety talk and instructions for the expedition. We will load everything on the rafts and into the water! This day we will do a calm section of gentle rapids until we reach our first camp. We will eat in the light of the stars, we will enjoy a campfire and a small astronomy class.

DAY 2: APURIMAC RIVER

After a delicious breakfast, we will get ready for a new day on the river. We will start paddling through class II, III and IV rapids, as well as sections of calm water. We will pass under some suspension bridges and it is very likely that we will see river otters, deer, foxes, torrent ducks, condors, and in 2021 we were lucky to see a puma on the shore, very close as we passed in the boats; it was impressive!

Lunches will be served on sandy beaches where we will take the opportunity to rest in the sun. We will camp and have dinner also on sandy beaches.

DAY 3: APURIMAC RIVER

After breakfast, we will run class III and IV rapids with names like “The other right” and “The three condors.”  We will arrive at the Hualpachaca bridge where our transport will be waiting for us with a delicious lunch and frozen drinks! From there we will return to Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
