MINOR LAKE – TITICACA SEA KAYAK

Lake Titicaca is divided in two by the Peninsula of Copacabana: Lago Mayor (main lake) is the northern part and the Lago Menor (minor lake) or Lake Huyñaymarca is the southern part. Our expedition is focused in the Huñaymarca archipelago, a very little known region, rarely visited by tourists. In this place we will learn more about local customs by spending a night in a family house, sharing lunch in desert islands and camping in places where vicuñas will be our only company. We’ll also catch sight of vizcachas and a great variety of birds, some of them endemic and endangered species.

Each day we will paddle: between 4 and 5 hours

.I T I N E R A R Y
 

DAY 1
Arrival in Puno. Meeting point at the hotel Casa Andina in Puno.

DAY 2 (B + L + D)
We leave Puno heading south, passing by the villages of Juli, Ilave and Yanguyo, until we reach our embarkation point in Punta Hermosa. Here we move the kayaks and all the equipment into a motor boat and head to the island of Anapia (90 minutes). Upon arrival, local families welcome us and provide accommodation in their homes. In the afternoon, we will have a short kayak practice.

DAY 3 (B + L + D)
Following breakfast with our hosting family, we get together in the dock to begin our journey. We start circling the Ccaño Island and continue towards the Yuspique Island, where we set camp. A sailboat with local fishermen will follow us carrying our belongings.

DAY 4 (B + L + D)
After having breakfast at the campsite, we continue our journey through a few small, desert islands (some of them are actually in Bolivian territory), while we admire some exponents of the area’s birdlife, such as the endemic Zambullidor del Titicaca (Diver of the Titicaca). We then arrive at Canna Island, inhabited by only 12 people and a hundred or so vicuñas, where a beautiful beach is our camping spot for today.

DAY 5 (B + L + D + B (DAY 6))
Today we continue our route among the islands, heading north to finally arrive at our destination in Punta Hermosa. After loading up our transport we return to Puno. Arrival in the hotel. Farewell dinner.
