Come paddle with us on this journey that crosses one of the few areas of the Peruvian coast without any towns or roads, whose only access is by sea, and where the most beautiful beaches of Peru are hidden.
They are 65 km of volcanic and desert area with a unique geography, which we will travel in special expedition sea kayaks. Dolphins, sea lions, otters and penguins, are part of the rich marine life, and we will often see them accompanying us on our journey. Explore coves, caves, beautiful beaches and vast variety of other wild life. Camp in epic locations and our chef will surprise us all each day with delicious meals. It will be an unforgettable trip!
Itinerary
DAY 1:
We leave early from the city of Arequipa, and transfer by our private transport to the port of Matarani that is an hour and a half away. Upon arriving we will prepare all the equipment, give you some basic instructions for the trip, and begin the journey. We leave the port to the open sea and paddle along the coast for three hours to get to our first camp in Quebrada Honda. In the afternoon we will hike along the coast and explore the desert.
DAYS 2, 3, 4 Y 5
Each day after a delicious breakfast on the beach, our journey along the coast begins. On the way we will explore coves, deserted beaches and caves filled with sea lions, penguins, dolphins and a vast variety of birds.
We will paddle between 2 and 4 hours each day weaving our way up the coast, with the support of a motor boat that will accompany us carrying the camping equipment, food, and able to give a lift if someone should feel tired or unwell.
The beaches we will visit for camping or just relaxing are all with calm waters that without waves providing comfortable paddling for even the inexperienced. Some days we will arrive at camp early and lunch at the campsite to take the afternoon off or do different activities, like hike the beach or nearby streams, visit penguins and sea lions where they bask in the sun, paddle to some beach or interesting cove, dive, explore caves or just relax at camp and enjoy the scenery.
In the camp site we will have in addition to the comfortable expedition tents, a kitchen tent with a cook and his assistant that will take care of our meals. Each day we will have breakfast, a snack for the paddle, lunch, afternoon tea and a delicious dinner. We will have a shelter to protect you from the strong sun of the day and also a toilet tent offering a little privacy.
At night we can make a fire and enjoy the sky a little more, watching the constellations, stars and planets in the southern sky.
The last night (if you should choose) we will have the chance to sleep in a place where they have some cabins with real beds and a good shower. It is the only habited place on our tour. They also have a scallop hatchery giving us an opportunity to dine on some of Peru’s freshest scallops.
On our last day we will paddle to Caleta de Quilca, a small fishing port where our vehicle awaits us to take us back to Arequipa.
