We will walk to our camp, which is located near the archaeological center of Wacrapucara, which has a special location, with a 360-degree view of the Apurimac River canyon and its surroundings. Impressive. On day 2 we return by a different route, with huge rock walls and waterfalls.
Early in the morning our transport will pick us up from the hotel and we will head south-east through the Vilcanota Valley, then we will go up to the Pomacanchis Lagoon, to continue passing through Sangarará and Pitumarca, where we will take a detour to where the road ends, a total of approximately 4 hours by car. We will meet our mule handlers and horses that will carry all the camping equipment, and we will start walking. We will pass a small lagoon, then a series of gentle ascents and descents and we will arrive at some beautiful lagoons where the cooks will wait for us with a delicious lunch. We will resume the walk going down a ravine, we will pass by some waterfalls and we will see the Wacrapucara rock formation in the distance. We will arrive at our camp very close to the archaeological center, which we will be able to visit briefly that afternoon before camping.
After breakfast, we will make a guided visit to this sacred place, with a special location and a 360-degree view of the Apurimac River canyon and its surroundings. Immediately after we will start the walk back along a different path, this time at the base of some huge rock walls, with waterfalls, cave paintings and lots of vegetation. We will have lunch on the way and continue to the end of the walk and meet up with our vehicle and return to the Sacred Valley.
