RAFTING / HALF DAY / CLASS II - LOW

PIÑIPAMPA – HUAMBUTÍO SECTION

Along flat tranquil waters, with very gentle rapids through a narrow passage in the valley where there are no roads or villages in sight. Suitable for kids aged three and up. This section can be done at any time of the year but class III rapids may be expected during the rainy season from December to April.

CHUQUICAHUANA SECTION

A stretch of continuous Class III to Class IV rapids through a narrow valley; birdwatching and passage through the Chuquicahuana canyon. A good run at any time of the year, with Class IV and V rapids from November to April.

Mostly downhill, with moderate slopes: Starts from the circular Andean terraces of Moray, the Inca agricultural experiment, along unpaved roads leading to the traditional village of Maras. This spot provides one of the best views of the Cordillera Urubamba. We continue down to the salt pans along bridle paths until finally reaching the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

CHINCHERO AND LA SAL: MORAY - MARAS - SACRED VALLEY

Starting point is Chinchero along a wide trail, mostly flat but with a few gentle slopes, overlooking beautifully tended multicolored fields, passing by Huaypo lake, the circular Andean terraces at Moray -the Inca agricultural experiment- down llama tracks to the traditional village of Maras, which provides one of the best views of the Cordillera Urubamba. We continue down to the salt pans mines along an unpaved road to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

THE MOUNTAIN PASS AT LARES - CALCA

Our bus will leave us at a mountain pass located at 4,200 m, from here we begin our descent down a spectacular and technical Inca trail along a narrow canyon, continuing down to a wooded valley and cultivated fields, until we arrive at the village of Calca in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

MACHU PICCHU

The Sanctuary at Machu Picchu is nestled in an ecosystem known as a Cloud Forest, characterized by exuberant vegetation, high mountains with sheer drops and a great deal of rain; it is located in the transition zone between the cordillera and the jungle, with altitudes ranging from 6250 to 1800 m.

This ecosystem is rich in biodiversity: Spectacled Bears (declared as the Sanctuary’s symbol), Rupicola Peruviana, or Cock-of-the-rock, Peru’s emblematic bird, Quetzal, mountain toucans, velvet-fronted grackles, tarukas (Andean deer) and a profusion of hummingbirds. It is also the habitat of rare orchids, giant ferns, mountain palms and bromeliads.

According to the latest theories, Machu Picchu was a place of retreat for the Incas due to its climate, seclusion, natural resources and the quality of its water. The Sacred Valley of Machu Picchu was strategically placed in a transition zone, between the mountains and the jungle. In 1993 it was declared as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

We will take care of everything: two way train admission fees in the rail service of your choosing (Hiram Bingham, Vistadome, Backpacker), guided 2-hour tour, bus up and down from the ruins. We can suggest good places for lunch or we can include lunch if you prefer.

PEROLNIYOC TREK

This is a mostly downhill walk between mountains where we will pass through the Raqaypata archaeological center and the Perolniyoc Waterfall. We will leave Urubamba for about 1 hour to the starting point of the trek. We will walk at the beginning in a gentle ascent, to then enter the ravine and take the old road to Raqaypata. After visiting the archaeological center, we will continue down with a view of the 80 m waterfall until we reach the base where we can cool off with the cold water. We will continue a little more until we reach our vehicle

HUAYOCCARI - URQUILLO

We start from Huayoccari, an important hacienda in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We ride across farmlands in fine, strong Paso horses. Once in the Quebrada de Urquillo, the gully is filled with the sound of parrots and the locals tending to their farms and watching their grazing livestock. We cross a couple of bridges before reaching the hacienda again.

In the meantime our staff will be preparing an awesome picnic and, if there ́s anyone that doesn ́t feel like going to the water, they can stay and have some drinks and appetizers under the shadow of the shelter in comfortable chairs admiring the view. After the paddling is over we ́ll get together to share each experience with a cold beer or a glass of wine and taste the healthy food prepared in Munaycha ́s house.

The rocky mountain trail iis through a shleltering forest. At the top we will enjoy views across the valley and over to the high plains of Maras. We will visit a local trout farm and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch.
